Pets is the 23rd episode of Elmo's World.
What is Elmo Thinking about Today?
An assortment of Muppet animals (dog, cat, rabbit, bird, mouse, frog, turtle) run into the room and back out.
Mr. NoodleDorothy has a miniature goldfish bowl in her fish bowl. She wants to know "How do you play with a pet?". Mr. Noodle's brother Mr. Noodle was stepping on his hand and after he removes it, he tries to play fetch with a goldfish and a hamster before whistling for a dog. He plays fetch with Barkley and gives him a hug.
Dorothy Wants to Ask Someone Else
Kids show Dorothy lizards, a cat and a guinea pig. Elmo asks a baby with a plush dog.
Elmo Has a Question for You
Elmo asks the viewer to help him count five mice and one giraffe riding on a roller coaster.
Elizabeth shows things Little Murray Sparkles can do, culminating in him meowing, rubbing and purring at the same time, making him "the smartest kitty in the whole world!".
Elmo asks questions about what can be pets and what can't. Chairs can't be pets, but pets like cats can sit in a chair. Lettuce can't be a pet, but pets like rabbits can eat lettuce. Birthday cakes can't be pets, pets like can eat birthday cakes. Tigers can't be pets, because they are wild. Telly Monster and Chuckie Sue appear in an answer that monsters can't be pets, but they can have pets. Elmo is a monster too and has his own pet: Dorothy!
Elmo wanted Dorothy to watch Elmo's friend Aleesa as she talks about how her cat, Fluffy, and her dog, Spike, are same and different. She and her sister give Spike a bath.
Dorothy and the pets wanted to see The Pets Channel with Elmo. This channel shows the Lecture Lady interpreting how pets talk. In the end, she tried to imitate the sound of a bird, but the bird ended up talking like human, citing Shakespeare's famous passage from "Hamlet". The Lecture Lady signs off by making pets sounds. Stay tuned for "Cats" starring Eartha Kitten.
Elmo tries to talk to the pets from the beginning of the episode, but they run on by so Elmo talks to Dorothy about pets. Dorothy says that pets need people and monster to take care of them. Dorothy loves her fish food and needs fresh water every day.
